Hey Hey, we’re the Monkey-ahs…
Over the last few weeks, Beck has been adding words at an alarming and charming pace. Sometimes, there is a clash of terms. “Monkey” is currently “Monkey-ahs”.
For example, his growing obsession with Monsters, Inc. For a bit it was “Monsties”, but it has crossed over to “Monkey-ahs” for the most part.
This Sunday morning, Boo excitedly asked me, “Monkey-ahs! Monkey-ahs!…” I located the DVD. Then is was “Ho’d! Ho’d!” He wanted to carry the disc and then put it in the player. He gets so excited, he hits the buttons too many times, making him get more excited because nothing is happening. I love watching the wee hands…no doubt the hands of a surgeon…working to put the DVD in and pushing the tray to make it retract.
The DVD in, he runs over to the couch. “Sit! Sit” He climbs up and pats the cushion next to him, so I sit down and we start to watch the flick. I grabbed the blanket and covered our legs and Beck leaned up against me and rested his head on my chest. He does this little thing where he puts a hand on you and kind of pats you with his fingers. It kills me, every time. I got, like, 15 minutes of that.
Sunday morning, piled up on the couch with my son, coffee and “monkey-ahs”. Sucked to be anyone else…

Hold me closer, Tiny Driv-ee…
Mommy bought Beck a wee tool kit…and that was our undoing.
He loves to fix things or “open!?”. He is specifically happy with his screw “driv-ee”. However, one day we took out a precision screwdriver…and it was all over but the eventual crying.
Now, the plastic (and safe) screwdriv-ee all but forgotten, Boo’s passion is for “Tiny Driv-ee”. He accompanies it with little pinching gestures.
Luckily, he’s pretty good about hold the pointy part down…except when running with glee. He’s a gleeful kid, so…well we’re working on it.
A couple of times a day he runs to the junk area above the washer chanting, “Driv-ee!? Tiny!”

Inadvertantly instilling good habits!? Moi!?
We sat there today, playing with blocks. By “playing” I mean I build an architectual paragon and Beck smashed it. When I pointed out that the foundation weathered his personal hurricane, he proceded to stomp on it. It’s cool, I can take him…but I digress.
Suddenly, Boo got up and ran into the bathroom. I heard him opening the cabinet under the sink. I heard the “thump, thump, thump” of excited feet storming towards me. He came around the couch holding a bottle of mouthwash, smiling.
“Is that for me?”
“Yeah!”
I took it from him and he proceeded to climb into my lap. He started looking back at me all smiley and what not. I took a swig of minty fresh-ness and he took it back and zipped off to the bathroom. I followed him and watched him put the bottle back in and close the door. He then pointed at the sink. Again with the smiling. I spit and heard, a second later, “Spah!”
I love that lad.

Thus Spoke Boo-athustra…
The last week or so, Beck has moved from largely babbling to mostly babbling and trying to get his mouth around words. He still is largely monosyllabic(and why is that word so frappin’ syllabic?) usually the first syllable, but yesterday he picked up a pecan that had fallen in the backyard. I said “pecan” he said, “Peh”. I said it again to get the response “Peh”.
I’m a wily pop, so I tried an verbal end run.
“Beck can you say ‘Peh’?”
“Peh”
“Can you say ‘Can’?”
“Cahn.”
He He He…”can you say ‘Pecan’?”
“Peh!!”
…Damn.
Saturday we went for Mexican food and when the waiter asked my dad for his drink, “iced tea” then me, “iced tea”. Then a wee voice said, “Iced tea!”
Here is a Beck to English primer
Yellow = “Llellow”
Please = “Peas!”
Peach = “Pee”
Pee = “Pee”
Play Doh = “Pee”
Platypus = “Pee”
Water = “Wa”
More = “Mo-wa!”

Tales from the Backside…
I can’t believe I didn’t share this sooner!
Beck has an…interesting habit. He poops every time we go to a bookstore. Every time. Feed that kid a jar of peanut butter and bananas topped off with a pound of cheese and then take him to Barnes And Noble for 10 minutes in the kids section. Sniff, sniff…whoo. Really, it’s any book store. It constantly amazes us and we’re usually caught without a diaper.
Maybe we could be poop hustlers? “Hey…buddy! Wanna bet I can make this kid poop?”
